Best IPTV Apps in 2026: TiViMate vs Smarters vs Smart IPTV

A television screen filled with an abstract electronic programme guide grid in blue and dark tones

The app matters more than the subscription. The same channel list feels completely different through TiViMate than through a basic player, and the difference is almost entirely the programme guide. Here is which app to use on which platform, and why the answer changes by device.

The answer by platform

Recommended IPTV player by platform
Your device Use this Cost Why
Android TV, Nvidia Shield TiViMate Small one-off Best guide, recording, remote-first
Firestick / Fire TV TiViMate Small one-off Same, after sideloading
Samsung Tizen Smart IPTV One-off per TV TiViMate unavailable
LG webOS Smart IPTV One-off per TV TiViMate unavailable
iPhone, iPad, Apple TV IPTV Smarters Pro Free No sideloading needed
Windows, Mac IPTV Smarters Pro or VLC Free Fastest way to test credentials
Not sure IPTV Smarters Pro Free Runs almost everywhere

TiViMate — the best experience, on Android only

If your device runs Android, this is the one. The programme guide is the reason: a proper full-screen grid you navigate with a remote, showing what is on now and next across your channels, the way a cable box does. Nothing else in the category comes close.

What you get: the guide, genuine recording to local or network storage, multiple playlists you can switch between, picture-in-picture, per-channel decoder settings, and channel groups you can hide so a list of fifty thousand becomes a list of fifty you actually watch.

The catch: Android only. There is no iOS, Tizen or webOS build and there is unlikely to ever be one. On a Firestick you sideload it because Amazon does not carry it — about five minutes, covered in our TiViMate setup guide.

Free or paid: the free version handles one playlist with no recording. Premium is a small one-off payment to the developer, not a subscription, and adds everything above. It is worth it.

IPTV Smarters Pro — the universal choice

Runs on Android, Fire OS, iOS, tvOS, Windows and macOS. Free on every platform. If you are not sure what to use, or you switch between devices, this is the safe answer.

The interface is a familiar app layout — Live TV, Movies, Series as separate sections — rather than a television-style guide. Some people prefer that. It handles both Xtream Codes logins and M3U URLs, and it will hand playback off to an external player like VLC or MX Player if a stream misbehaves in the built-in one.

One thing to watch: IPTV Smarters Pro and IPTV Smarters (without Pro) are different apps with different interfaces. The Pro build is the one worth having. Our Smarters setup guide covers both the install and the sideload path on Fire OS.

Smart IPTV — the Samsung and LG answer

On a Samsung or LG television this is usually the only practical option, and it works differently from everything else. Instead of typing credentials into the app, you upload your playlist to a web portal keyed to your television MAC address.

That sounds odd and it is, but it works: install the app, note the MAC address it displays, go to the portal on your phone, enter the MAC and your M3U URL, then restart the app. Seven days free, then a small one-off activation fee per television paid to the developer.

Two limitations worth knowing. It takes M3U only, not Xtream Codes — use the M3U URL your provider sends alongside them. And the MAC is tied to the set, so replacing the television means a new upload and a new activation. Our Smart IPTV guide covers the portal step in detail.

GSE Smart IPTV — the Apple alternative

Free, on iOS and tvOS, and a reasonable second option if IPTV Smarters misbehaves on your Apple device. More configurable than Smarters, slightly less approachable. Handles both credential formats.

VLC — not a real IPTV app, but keep it installed

VLC is free, runs on everything, and will play an M3U playlist. It has no programme guide and no proper channel navigation, so it is not something to watch television through.

What it is, is the fastest diagnostic tool available to you. Open VLC on a computer, Media, Open Network Stream, paste your M3U URL. If the channel list loads and a channel plays, your credentials are valid and any problem on your television is device-specific rather than account-specific. That one test rules out half of all possible causes in about thirty seconds.

What actually separates a good app from a bad one

  • The programme guide. The single biggest difference in daily use. A service with a great channel list and no working guide feels broken; the same list with a proper guide feels like television.
  • Channel group management. Being able to hide categories you will never watch. Without it, fifty thousand channels is a burden rather than a feature.
  • Buffer and decoder control. The two settings that fix most stuttering. An app that hides them is an app you cannot troubleshoot.
  • Remote-first navigation. Apps built for touchscreens are miserable with a directional remote, and that is how you will actually use them.

None of them carry channels

Worth stating plainly, because a lot of searches for a free IPTV app are really looking for free content. Every app on this page is a player. It is an empty shell until you give it credentials from a provider or load a public playlist. The app being free does not make the television free.

If you want genuinely free content, the legal options are Pluto TV, Tubi and Samsung TV Plus — we cover them in the best free IPTV services.

What we would install

TiViMate if your device runs Android, Smart IPTV if you are on a Samsung or LG set, IPTV Smarters Pro anywhere else — and VLC on a computer regardless, purely as a diagnostic.

Your subscription is not tied to any of them. All our credentials come in both Xtream Codes and M3U format, so you can switch apps whenever you like without contacting us. The setup guides cover each one step by step.

Questions People Also Ask

Which IPTV app is the best?

Which IPTV app is best for TV?

What apps should I use for IPTV?

Any player accepting Xtream Codes or an M3U playlist works. The four worth using are TiViMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, Smart IPTV and GSE Smart IPTV. Keep VLC on a computer too, purely to verify credentials quickly.

Is there a totally free IPTV app?

The apps are mostly free: IPTV Smarters Pro, GSE Smart IPTV and VLC all cost nothing. TiViMate and Smart IPTV charge a small one-off fee. But an app is only a player and carries no channels of its own.

Can I install TiViMate on a Samsung TV?

No. TiViMate is Android-only and there is no Tizen or webOS build. Use Smart IPTV, IPTV Smarters or Net IPTV instead, or plug in an Android device such as a Firestick.
