Prefer Xtream Codes where possible
An Xtream Codes login brings the channel list, the guide and the on-demand library together. M3U typically brings only the channels. Use M3U when the app gives you no other choice.
Setup Guide
M3U is the universal format for IPTV. It is a plain text file listing every channel and its stream address, and any player that accepts a URL will load it. Use it when an app has no Xtream Codes option, and use it on a desktop to verify your credentials work before touching the television.
The M3U URL is one long address containing your username and password as parameters. Treat it as a credential: anyone with that URL has your subscription.
On a computer, open VLC, choose Media then Open Network Stream, paste the URL and press Play. If the channel list loads, your credentials are valid and any later problem is device-specific rather than account-specific.
In IPTV Smarters choose Load Your Playlist or File/URL. In Smart IPTV upload it through the MAC portal. In TiViMate choose Add Playlist then M3U. The field is always labelled URL or Playlist URL.
A large playlist takes thirty seconds to two minutes to download and index. Slower devices take longer. Do not close the app while it parses.
M3U carries channels; the programme guide is usually a separate XMLTV URL. If your player has an EPG URL field and the guide is blank, that field is what needs filling.
Playlists are downloaded, not live. When we add channels, reload the playlist in your app to pick them up rather than waiting for it to happen on its own.

It contains your credentials in plain text. Do not paste it into a public forum when asking for help — redact the username and password first.
Whenever something is wrong, testing the M3U in VLC on a computer tells you in seconds whether the problem is your account or your device.
Questions

M3U carries channels only. The guide comes from a separate XMLTV source. If your player has an EPG URL field, add the guide address there — or switch to an Xtream Codes login, which includes it automatically.
Yes. Media, then Open Network Stream, then paste the URL. VLC is the quickest way to confirm your credentials work, though it has no programme guide and no proper channel navigation.
